Am I a “New Member” or an “Eligible Transfer Member”?

There are two different groups of TRS members who have the opportunity to choose TRS Plan 3, New members and Eligible Transfer members. Different rules apply to each group. Please read the information below to determine which group you belong to.

New Member

You are considered a new member if you were hired into an eligible position on or after July 1, 2007*. You must turn in your Member Information Form on or before day 90, or default to TRS Plan 3.

Eligible Transfer Member

You are an eligible transfer member if you were a TRS Plan 2 member before July 1, 2007. Eligible transfer members can transfer to TRS Plan 3 in January, but must earn service credit in January to be eligible to transfer.

* If a court of law decides the repeal of gain sharing is invalid, new members hired after the court decision will be mandated into Plan 3. See Gain Sharing.
