SERS Plan 2 vs Plan 3

Who is Eligible for SERS Plan 3

All SERS Plan 2 members who had prior PERS Plan 2 service have the option to transfer to SERS Plan 3.

School district and Educational Service District (ESD) classified employees first hired into an eligible position on or after July 1, 2007 have 90 days from date of hire to make a choice of Plan 2 or Plan 3 membership, unless they had prior PERS Plan 2 service*.

Additional Plan 3 membership information can be found in the SERS Plan 3 Member Handbook. The New Member section of this Web site also includes step-by-step instructions for enrollment in SERS Plan 3.

*If a court of law decides the repeal of gain sharing is invalid, new members hired after the court decision will be mandated into plan 3. See Gain Sharing.
